INTRODUCTION TO BIOCHAR
For this workshop we bring our 50 liter pyramid kiln.
We explain and demonstrate the whole proces of doing a successful biochar burn using what is called the flame cap method. After the burn we briefly discuss some simple methods of processing and applying the biochar.
The goal of this workshop is giving people the confidence of working with fire so they can get started with producing and using their own biochar.
As this is an introductory workshop we won't go deep into the science behind biochar.
This burn yields about 50 liters of wet biochar, equivalent to roughly 4-7kg of dry biochar depending on feedstock.
Bring gloves and protective glasses.
TOTAL DURATION OF THE WORKSHOP:
2 hours
FOR THE HOST:
Prepare a sufficient amount of biomass for the burn. Biomass should be dry but not older than 3 years old, be less than 5cm in diameter and no bigger than 50cm.
Make sure there is running water available with decent water pressure. Host is responsible for organization.
NOT INCLUDED:
Crushing of the biochar
Preparation of biomass
Maximum audience: 8 people (including hosts)
PRICE:
€240 + travel expenses (€0.50/km back and forth)

PRIVATE BIOCHAR BURN
Private biochar burn
For this we bring our production kiln. We teach you (+ one friend) the whole proces of doing a successful biochar burn using what is called the flame cap method.
Burn lasts 4 hours or until the kiln is full, whichever comes first.
HOW TO PREPARE
Make sure there is a sufficient amount of biomass that is dry, not larger than 5-7cm in diameter and branches no bigger than 100x50cm.
Biomass that has been cut more than 3 years ago is not suitable.
Make sure there is running water available with decent water pressure.
A full burn yields about 360 liters of wet biochar, equivalent to roughly 28-50kg of dry biochar depending on feedstock.
NOT INCLUDED:
Crushing of the biochar
Preparation of biomass
PRICE:
€300 + travel expenses (€0.50/km back and forth)
(+ €30 for every additional participant)
